  Managers Match Report...

Polstain Road welcomed the players from Four Lanes in this Division 3 clash. The weather for once was relevantly calm with little wind and the odd spell of sunshine which made a change from the last few weeks. After last weeks poor showing against Truro GWRSA, the manager made changes bringing back the younger members of the squad to inject some pace into the side.

The first half kicked off and saw TMS go straight onto the attack with young J.Bright blazing over the bar within a few seconds of the start. Within a few minutes of this the Reserves took the lead when a cross came in from the right hand side and Bright bundled the ball into the net. It seemed that TMS wanted to win this game and they continued to press with Four Lanes only able to make one or two breaks towards the home side’s goal. M.Tregenna made the score two, when he was put through by a well weighted ball from Pentecost, Tregenna latched onto the ball lifting it with the outside of his foot over the advancing keeper into the far corner of the net. The Stones were good value for their lead, but this was just the prelude to what was to come. Threemilestone pressed forward and when G.Pirret crossed into the box one of the Four Lane players stuck an arm out to stop it and the referee pointed to the spot. Dave Hill stepped up and coolly made it three nil when he slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner. Amazing three nil up and to be honest it was pretty comfortable. Four lanes began to press harder after this and did create several chances which they failed to convert. Top scorer Jolly soon got into the act when he fired a fierce shot into the back of the net after the away side were only able to half clear a corner to the edge of the eighteen yard box. Four nil to the good and the Stones kept on attacking, Pirret whipped in a free kick which found the head of Jolly who scored his second of the game. The clock ran down and right on the stroke of half time some sloppy defending gave four lanes a goal which on the balance of play they probably didn’t deserve.

The second half saw a much more committed Four Lanes, obviously buoyed by their late first half goal, went at the Threemilestone defence who defended well but unfortunately could not hold out and the away side doubled their tally. The half progressed with both sides having chances but it was TMS who scored next when Tregenna broke through the away sides defence and slotted his second of the game and the Reserves sixth. Normally at six two you would expect that to be that but as with previous games TMS had a sloppy ten minutes in which Four Lanes scored twice, one coming from the penalty spot, however if it was not for heroics by TMS keeper Dave Tamblyn the Stones could have seen their lead wiped out. It was at this point that the game swung back in favour of the home side, with the clock ticking down, the instruction to the home side was to keep the ball in the oppositions half for as long as possible. With this the TMS players headed towards the oppositions corner flag and it was whilst this was taking place when one of the Four Lanes players dived in two footed at the TMS player. The referee who had already produced a yellow card to the same player, showed another caution followed by a red card. Going down to ten men seemed to take the stuffing out of the away side and within a couple of minutes TMS scored their seventh goal when a shot from Mark Tregenna came off the post for substitute Simon Youngs to score his first goal for the club. As the game came to its conclusion TMS should have added at least two further goals but this was not to be, the final whistle blew with an excellent display which was reflected by the score for once.

Men of the Match were Mark Tregenna and Dave Tamblyn, but congratulations must go out to the whole of the team for an excellent team performance.

Richard Luff, Caretaker Manager
