Local
derby’s are always well contested but it has to be
said that TMS against Truro GWRSA is one of the most hotly
disputed derby’s even more than the Merseyside or Madrid
derby. The
game started quickly with both sides going for goals; however
some desperate
defending
and poor finishing saw the score stay level until the home
side’s goalkeeper collided with the away side forward
which saw him having to be substituted. With only a limited
bench young Hocking had to fill the breech, unfortunately
10 mins after the keeper going off, Truro scored when a shot
hit the upright and rebounded to the GWRSA forward who headed
into the empty net. This
seemed to increase the tension between the two sides and
several dubious tackles later, the away side doubled their
tally when a cross was converted into his own net by Mike
Waller, even though Hocking had pulled off a classic save
before the event.
The second half saw the home
side increase the pressure on the visitors and although chances
were made unfortunately they were unable to impact on the
lead. Man of the Match for the Stones was James Butler who
played the match with a knock but was outstanding.
