After
three weeks without a game it was good to get back into
action although conditions were not so good, with gale
force winds blowing diagonally across the college pitch.
Defending against the howling wind in the first half things were
looking good as school rarely troubled Pellow with a shot on
target and we even managed a few goal attempts at their end,
but after twenty five minutes Tim Grose in the left back area
slipped
as he tried to turn with the ball and presented their man with
an easy run in and his shot from twenty five yards sailed past
pellow. The score remained 1-0 until half time with the ball
seaming to be out of play more often than in.
With the strong wind behind us in the second half it seemed that
goals would soon come our way but after a couple of minutes of
the start it was 2-0 to the school, and the Stones were in a
state of shock. Eventually after seventy five minutes Marc Taylor
slipped
between two defenders trying to play him offside to score and
give the side a massive boost. Ten minutes later the scores were
level as R.Stephens scored the goal of the game with a run from
his left back spot through midfield to the right hand side of
the penalty box where he unleashed a wind assisted shot which
gave the goalie no hope. A draw looked likely but in the last
few minutes a succession of corners gave the hosts a few nervous
moments and Anthony Caddy's
in swinging near post corner caused panic in the six yard box
an attempted clearance seemed to hit Lee Fairley on the arse
and bobble into the corner of the net to steal the three points
with the last kick off the game.
