On a
blustery April evening TMS traveled to Clijah Croft to
face Mount Ambrose and on a postage stamp of a pitch put
in the worst performance of the season.
The first half was a messy affair with TMS looking anything
but a top of the table side, failing to replicate any of
the crisp fluent passing game from the weekends fixture
with St Ives. The pitch wasn't helping and the decision
was quickly taken to drop the starting 3-5-2 formation
in favour of a more orthodox 4-4-2 which allowed the congested
midfield to find some space. Both sides created little
in the way of outright chances but goals from Anthony Caddy
and Mark Taylor gave the Stones a narrow
first half
lead.
The second half performance didn't get any better and Mount
Ambrose were playing by far the better football with some
good passing and movement off the ball, but a combination
of last ditch defending by the TMS back four and some woeful
finishing by the homeside kept the visitors lead intact.
TMS created few clear chances on goal, but with the sun
disappearing over the horizon Tim Grose snatched a third
for the visitors following a great turn on the edge of
the box by man of the match Chris Bailey and the victory
was secure.
The players knew they hadn't performed well and with a
bit more conviction Mount Ambrose may have caused an upset
but TMS left for home, not with pride but more importantly
with all three points to remain top of the table going
into this weekends matches.
