Threemilestone
have always put in good performances against teams from
higher leagues, but in this game we failed to deliver our
usual high standard mix of slick football and good honest
hard work. Praze were only an average 1st division side
with a very good striker and little else and the sort of
side we would usually have a chance of adding to our list
of recent scalps.
We started the game very badly, unable to play simple passes
and failing to make a decent challenge. It was no surprise that
Praze
went ahead after only ten minutes. Praze then failed to build
on their lead due mainly to the constant heading out of defence
of Ian Jay. Just as half time approached it looked like we had
turned the corner and were going to give them a good go in the
second half, but a poor few minutes saw us concede two and finish
the half 3:0 down.
The second half started a little better and Marc Taylor pulled
a goal back when a Praze goal kick went straight to Taylor, who
volleyed it straight back in with the keeper stranded outside
his goal. After a series of good free kicks from Anthony Caddy
that gave the Praze defence problems Taylor found the net again,
sliding the ball under the keeper from four yards. Despite this
mini comeback the mistakes were still being made and anything
loose was being picked up by the Praze midfield, who
fed the ball to the tall and talented front man. He made the
most of his chances to add three more goals in the last twenty
five
minutes to leave the stones well beaten, although sub James Bright
did have the ball in the net once more only to see the ref disallow
it for a bit of pushing.
