With both teams
going into the game unbeaten this looked likely to be the
Stones toughest game of the season so far and a larger than
average crowd were treated to a match that had everything.
Threemilestone started well and took the game to the home side (who were strengthened
by several 1st team players) and were rewarded with a goal after 15 minutes,
Daniel Taylor out-pacing the home defence latching onto a through ball from brother
Marc. Two minutes later the scores were level, a mix up in the Stones defence
allowed Spencer Knibb to score from 16yrds. In the 22nd minute the Stones were
back in front, a free kick on the edge of the area allowed Anthony Caddy to drive
a low ball behind the defence and Steve Howson scored with a brilliant diving
header. Marc Taylor increased the lead 3 minutes later only to let Chacewater
back in five minutes later when a poorly defended corner allowed Mike Cellia
to score with an unstoppable volley from 18yards.
Threemilestone started the second half as they did the first, with several good
efforts on goal and Dan Taylor looked to have sewn the game up for TMS when he
beat the goalie to a ball near the corner flag and lobbed the stranded keeper
from a tight angle. Chacewater looked beaten but scored from a free kick from
25 yards out, goalkeeper Kev Pellow getting a hand to it but being unable to
stop it. Chacewater then threw everyone forward for a last frantic 15 minutes,
pumping long balls into the heart of the Stones defence, who to their credit
defended superbly. TMS had opportunities to run down the clock by keeping the
ball but the lack of experience of the young team probably cost them all three
points, when in the second minute of injury time a big kick up field from the
keeper was lost in the failing light and a chacewater player managed to get a
foot on the ball flicking it over the advancing Pellow to level the match and
leave the TMS players and management gutted.
