01/03/08 - STORM 0, THREEMILESTONE 2

Returning to Threemilestone AFC after having left the club 4 years ago was like the prodigal son returning.

So here I am once again, managing one on “The Stones” teams and looking forward to getting my hands dirty in the old management game.  Since leaving the club I have managed at Trispen (1st team) and when approached by TMS to take on the Reserve side, I was residing at Goonhavern, helping with the SWPL Div 1 (West) side. On looking at the fixtures I could not believe that first up was Storm Reserves who were fighting for promoting along with TMS, Chacewater and Portreath. Not knowing the way in which the team played or who played where, I left the picking of the team to JP and GW.  On arriving at the ground the weather was nearly perfect and the pitch was not too bad for this time of the season, although it was far from a velvet surface!

The team began brightly, with Liam Patterson shooting over the bar in the first few minutes when he should have buried it.  This did not faze the away side and soon chances were flowing like the river Tamar after heavy rain. Once again Patty missed with a shot across the keeper; Richard Harris had two attempts although one was well blocked by a Storm defender.  Jason Pearce also missed when scoring probably would have been easier. Jason Peters hit a fine 30 yard drive that came of the cross bar. Was it not going to be our day? Well fortunately Patty eventually scored after a fine ball had put him through by Peters; it always makes you smile when players finish the difficult chances after squandering the sitters! This seemed to stun the home side into some sort of response because up to this point they had been on the back foot for the whole of the match, and they managed to shoot wide after a bit of a mix up in the TMS defence. The rest of the second half was played in the midfield with both sides coming close but neither side had that clinical finish to produce a goal.

At half time the team talk was on keeping the shape of the team and temperament as Storm were going to come at us as they needed to win if they were to keep their hopes of promotion alive. The half began fairly quietly which was surprising as you would have thought the home side would have come out all guns blazing.  The time ticked on and apart from one or two sorties into the Stones half, Storm did not look like getting back into the game. Threemilestone seemed quite content to contain Storm; however, from an excellent free kick from Richard Harris, Jason Peters rose like a salmon above the home sides defence and powered home an unstoppable header. This basically killed the game off and with the home sides heads dropping, it was TMS who had further chances to extend their lead. However, a combination of tired legs, the home keeper and poor more of that poor finishing the game finally petered out into a win for the Stones.

It was a good match to get the old teeth into, and the team played well although but there is still lots to work to do in training, especially fitness.  Every player contributed to the win and gave 110% which could be seen at the final whistle by some tired young legs. Paul Hopkinson was the TMS man-of-the-match.

16/02/08 - THREEMILESTONE 4, REDRUTH UTD 0

The Stones scored two in each half without reply to finish comfortable winners at Polstain Road. Jason Pearce opened the scoring early in the first half with a simple tap in after good work from Liam Patterson down the left had set him up. Patterson scored the second with a cracking finish just before the break.
Playing against the wind in the second period TMS kept the ball on the deck and played some good football. Pearce scored the third with a tidy finish, and later picked up his hat trick when he outpaced a defender and chipped the keeper from 25 yards for the Stones fourth. Dan Murt was TMS man of the match.

09/02/08 - THREEMILESTONE 6, NEWLYN NA 1

Threemilestone increased their lead at the top of the table with goals from Graeme Weir, Jason Peters, Richard Harries, two from Jason Pearce and a penalty by Josh Turner.

15/12/07 - PORTREATH 2, THREEMILESTONE 6

In this tie between two promotion hopefull's, Threemilestone came out on top after a fine second half display. Threemilestone started the game sharply and were 2-0 up inside ten minutes, the first from a Josh Turner penalty and then following some good build up play TMS doubled the score with a goal by leading scorer Liam Patterson. Portreath pulled two goals back to level the score before the interval as the home side finished the half the strongest.
Threemilestone up'd their game in the 2nd half and Richie Coralie soon put the Stones 3-2 up with a low drive, before doubling his tally with a smart overhead kick to put the visitors 4-2 up. A Portreath own goal took the score on to 5-2 and a great header from Ben Lavell finished off the game following a corner from the impressive Jason Pearce.

08/12/07 - PENDEEN 1, THREEMILESTONE 2

Threemilestone came out on top in this game ruined by a gale force wind which saw the majority of the game played in one half of the field. TMS took the lead after 25 minutes when Josh Turner slid the ball through the Pendeen defence for Liam Patterson to run onto and beat the keeper with a shot into the bottom corner.  Ten minutes before half time the Stones made it 2-0, after a corner was cleared by the home side the ball was put back in the box by Dan Murt and Ben Lavell smashed the ball into the net from ten yards.
Pendeen pulled a goal back early in the second half when due to the windy conditions the Stones were unable to clear the ball from inside their goal area and a Pendeen player picked up the loose ball to fire in. Despite the home side having the gale force wind in their favour for the remainder of the game TMS managed to hold on for the three points which keeps them on top of the Mining Div 3 table.

The Stones put in a good performance in this game going down to St Buryan with only the bare eleven players, but found themselves a goal down at half time when Buryan took the lead after 40 minutes against the run of play.
Threemilestone dominated the second half and levelled the score through Andrew Merrifield, tapping in from six yards after a square ball from Liam Patterson. Patterson had the ball in the net himself shortly after but had his effort ruled out for offside. Jason Pearce put Threemilestone in front after a goal mouth scramble the ball was laid back to Pearce on the edge of the box, who finished in style with a shot into the top corner. Merrifield scored his second of the game ten minutes from time, which was again a close range effort after being set up by Patterson. This secured the three points and wrapped up a good all round performance from the team.

17/11/07 - CROWN INN GLORY 3, THREEMILESTONE 3

The Reserves came back from 3-0 down at half time to rescue a point against their promotion challengers at Penzance. Goal scorers: Rich Coralie, Josh Turner, Mati Farr & Ben Lavell.
15/09/07 - THREEMILESTONE 7, STORM 1

After a good win against the New Boys the team was on a high, it was a sluggish start as Storm went 1-0 up with a deflected goal off Graham Weir. Threemilestone pulled it back level within 10 mins with a perfect corner from Mat Farr, which was greeted by a header from Paul Hopkinson. Rich Coralie doubled the Stones lead just before half time.
Second half started with a tight 5 mins before we scored again through Rich Coralie, and not long after another Mat Farr corner which was finally knocked in by Paul Hopkinson. With 20 mins to go Liam Pattison was brought down in the edge of the box, which gave us a penalty. Mat Farr stepped up to the mark to slot it coolly past the keeper. To round off the game 2 more goals came through Liam Pattison Which was well deserved.

Goal scorers: Paul Hopkinson (2), Rich Coralie (2), Mat Farr (pen), Liam Pattison (2).

11/09/07 - THREEMILESTONE 7, CORNISH NEW BOYS 0

With Threemilestone starting to gel is was only time before we would take an easy win, the New Boys started bright, but within 15 mins the gave us the lead with an own goal, from there on it was pretty much one sided, there was fluent and accurate play from Threemilestone, which lead to the New Boys keeper being kept busy, at half time we had a comfortable lead.
Second half was pretty much the same with our midfield dominating the game, spreading the ball down the flanks. Full time and a good win to prove what we are capable of.

Goals scorers: Tom Peters (3), Richie Coralie (2), Jody Kindom & Sam Marsdon.

08/09/07 - PENDEEN 3, THREEMILESTONE 4

A must win game as our start has not been how we would like, we had Pendeen pegged back for most of the first half, we were creating chances but not putting them away, we got the breakthrough with a goal from Paul Hopkinson.
Second half we started off well, scoring early on, we continued to push extending our lead to 4-1, with 2 more goals from Paul Hopkinson and 1 from Mike Hodges, with about 25 mins to go we lost shape which allowed Pendeen back in, they pulled it back to 4-3 which gave us a tough last 10.

Goal scorers: Paul Hopkinson (3) & Mike Hodges.

05/09/07 - CHACEWATER 3, THREEMILESTONE 2

Biggest game of the season as the local derby always is, within the first 5 mins Chacewater took the lead through a shot at goal with Tom Davis stranded the ball was destined to go in, that was until Liam Pattison caught the ball, which left us with 10 men for the rest of the game!
We put up a good fight and could of won the game, but missed chances, it was looking to be a 2-2 draw which would of been a good result with 10 men, but with 5 mins to go a lucky goal gave Chacewater the win.

Goal scorers: Giles Wane & Tom Peters (pen).

01/09/07 - ST IVES MARINERS 3, THREEMILESTONE 2

Poor start to the season, half strength squad due to injuries, first half was tight with Threemilestone making some good attacking moves, pretty even by half time.
Second half was a different game, we were slow and static with St.Ives creating all the chances.

Goal scorers Laurence Wiltshire & Liam Pattison.
